From Unvaccinated to Vaccinated: My Reckoning with The Wellness World
While I deeply appreciate growing up with alternative approaches to healing, I also owe my life to doctors.
At 5 months old I was helicoptered to Denver because my organs were failing and I was going into septic shock. I had contracted bacterial spinal meningitis and it took 4 days for me to stabilize and another week before I was released from the hospital - only to then go home with a new set of challenges to overcome.
My story was always told as a win for alternative healing, but in 2020 I realized that had I been vaccinated as a child, my life might have looked a whole lot different.
I now hold medical science and wellness practices with a balanced perspective, whereas during my childhood I was told to distrust the doctors who saved my life.
While sharing my story via my “Cracks in the Wellness World” video series on Instagram, I was approached by Voices for Vaccines.
This family-led organization serves as a catalyst to spark positive peer-to-peer conversations about vaccines and the diseases they prevent by supporting communities, building networks, and developing fact-based content that enables parents to make healthy, informed decisions about vaccination for their children and their communities.
I was happy to write a guest blog post for them. You can read it here:
